Springfield firefighters are investigating a fire Sunday that destroyed a barn on Green Valley Drive, west of Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.
The barn was fully on fire and had partially collapsed when the first engine company arrived on scene. Efforts to fight the fire were complicated because of an improperly functioning hydrant near the scene.
Tanker trucks from other fire departments assisted in the effort, but the barn, which contained farm equipment, is expected to be a total loss. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
