Adams Street still shut down around last week’s Juneteenth fire that left Pillsbury artifacts in ashes

Nearly a week after a massive fire ripped through and across historic buildings in downtown Springfield, the community is still trying to figure out its next steps.

People will see squad cars and a mobile police unit surrounding the 400 block of Adams Street for several days, but the Springfield Police Department said no one should be
alarmed; they are simply there to ensure that no one gets too close to 413 and 415 E. Monroe.

It is too early to know the exact cost of damage, but many of the business owners have been reportedly talking with their insurance companies to see how they can help.

O’Shea Builders and Hanson Engineering hope to stabilize the buildings on Tuesday.
