Springfield man found guilty of several crimes committed during 2018 home invasion

A Springfield man has been found guilty of several crimes committed in a 2018 home invasion that escalated into a murder.

A jury in Sangamon County convicted 26-year-old Danye Woods last week on charges of home invasion, armed robbery, theft and first-degree murder.

Testimony presented during a three-day trial showed that in February of 2018, Woods and others planned an armed robbery against 19-year-old Dohndre Hughes.

On Feb. 23, 2018, Woods and another man broke into Hughes’ home on East Jackson Street near McCreery Avenue through the back door.

Once inside, they yelled “Police!”, and ordered Hughes and another person to the ground. When Hughes did not comply, Woods stabbed him in the chest, killing him.

Woods and his accomplice stole money from the home and then fled.

Sentencing and length remains to be determined, and WMAY will keep you up to date as more information becomes available.
