  All Day CWLP Every Drop Counts Poster Contest   City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) is excited to offer its first water conservation poster contest, “Every Drop Counts.” First, second and third grade students in schools located within the City of Springfield are invited to submit entries through their teachers. Posters should demonstrate water conservation in action, highlighting the need for everyone to conserve. Winning posters will be utilized in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week in May to promote the importance of one of our most important natural resources. Teachers should encourage students to draw a picture that illustrates one important point. Students should use large lettering, few words, heavy lines and strong colors. First place winners from each grade level will be given a certificate for a pizza party for their entire classroom. Second and third place winners will receive special award ribbons. In addition, the first 150 students to enter the contest will each receive a complimentary drawstring bag labeled – “SAVE WATER, SAVE ENERGY.” Every student who creates a poster will receive a certificate of participation. The Official Stuff The contest is open to all City of Springfield public and private first, second or third graders. 1. All posters must be drawn horizontally (landscape) on 11” x 17” white poster paper. 2. Students may use crayon, watercolors, poster paint, markers, ink, cut paper, tissue paper or fabric. Please do not use materials that may smear, crack or chip. 3. Students must work on posters as individuals. Teamwork posters will not be accepted. 4. All entries must include an official completed entry form signed by a parent or guardian. The entry form must be attached to the back of the poster. 5. Only original artwork will be accepted. Computer-generated drawings will not be considered. Reproduction of popular cartoon characters or three-dimensional work will not be accepted. 6. Posters should not be folded when packaged. 7. All entries must be received no later than the contest deadline of March 1, 2013. Posters may be hand-delivered to CWLP at 1008 E. Miller St. [10th/Miller] or arrangements can be made for pick up. 8. Posters will not be returned; they become the property of CWLP. OFFICIAL RULES: The judging panel will consist of five members, a mixture of local artists, public administrators and professionals with background in water conservation, design and education. The posters will be evaluated on the following criteria: * Conservation Message [10 points] - Does the poster convey the theme’s message clearly and link to the water conservation subject? * Visual Effectiveness [10 points] – How does the poster relay the message and does it motivate you to take action? Will you remember the poster next year? Is it neat and creative? * Universal Appeal [10 points] – Regardless of age or education level, everyone should be able to understand the message. Does it appeal to the general population or a large audience? * Originality [10 points] – Artistic Expression. Poster Contest Schedule * Entries are due by March 1, 2013; * Judging will be completed by March 15, 2013; * Winners will be announced by April 1, 2013; *Posters will be displayed and utilized to promote the “National Drinking Water Week”, May 5-11, 2013; and * CWLP will feature the posters on their website throughout the year.   All Day Feb 21 Accepting Teen Poetry/Art Submissions   Now accepting poetry and artwork submissions from teens, grades 6-12 until March 1, 2013 for international teen poetry anthology, Navigating the Maze. Produced in Springfield, Ill. by the local non-profit literary organization Springfield Poets and Writers and sponsored in part by the Vachel Lindsey Association, this annual book is in its 15th year of publication. Contributors to the book receive two free books.   6:30PM 11:59PM Central IL Predators Baseball Annual Mouse Races   Please Join us for our 2nd Annual Mouse Races on Friday March 1st to be held at the Eagles Club on Ash St in Springfield.
