8:00AM 12:00PM Feathers and Flowers Hikes   Whether you enjoy the colors of spring wildflowers or the many hues of our spring migrants, you can enjoy either by joining one of several bird watching or blossom time hikes. Kevin Veara will, as usual, lead the morning bird hikes. This spring, he’ll be looking for birds on Saturday mornings, April 20th, 27th, May 4th, and May 11th. Hikes begin at 8 a.m. at the Nature Center. You can learn more about the Garden’s spring wildflowers by joining a blossom time hike on Sundays, April 14th, 21st, and 28th. The hikes begin at 2 p.m. at the Nature Center. Not only will the woodland floor be full of blossoms, but the Garden’s dogwoods, redbuds, and crabapples will be in full flower. Explore the Garden with a guide or welcome spring on your own, but make it a point to visit the Garden for a springtime stroll during one of the most beautiful times of the year.

8:00PM 10:30PM Les Liaisons Dangereuses   “Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” the play adaptation based on the original 18th century text by Choderlos de Laclos, and adapted for the stage by Christopher Hampton, will receive a new staging by LLCC Theatre in May. Performance dates are May 3, 4, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. in the lower level of Sangamon Hall South on the Lincoln Land Community College campus in Springfield. The production contains mature themes and presentations of violence and is not recommended for persons under the age of 17. Tickets, at $12 for adults and $10 for college students and seniors, go on sale April 17 at the LLCC Ticket Office in Menard Hall, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or may be reached by calling 217-786-2762. Seating is limited and advance tickets are recommended. This postmodern treatment of the play (that has seen numerous stagings and film adaptations) will address the issues of power and oppression in the modern age. Calling on strong images of control reaching from personal to political, it deals keenly with a world in which political power breeds excess. Echoes of these excesses resonate in this production from 18th century revolutions to present-day political scandals. LLCC’s theatre program values the expression of arts in all forms and the cultivation of arts and arts appreciation. The program embraces diverse and divergent world views while championing humanity in its complexity: its weaknesses and strengths, its failings and its successes. Consistent with this values statement, there will be a post-show discussion led by LLCC faculty immediately following each performance to provide an open forum for audience members to reflect on the issues at hand. More information on LLCC Theatre is available at www.llcc.edu/theatre.
