  All Day Mid-America Mane Event Horse Show   The 11th annual Mid-America Horse Show Association’s Mane Event Horse Show will be held Oct. 24-27, 2013, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Coliseum. The Mane Event attracts barns from Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin and the northern Illinois area, making Springfield the perfect location for these barns to meet for the Mane Event’s 2013 edition. Back this year, along with the Pleasure Olympic Finals, the Mane Event will host the prestigious national Good Hands Equitation Finals. The Mane Event is free and open to the public. Classes will be held starting at noon and 7 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m., noon and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and at 10 a.m. on Sunday. For more information about the Mid-America Mane Event Horse Show, log on to Mid-America Horse Show Association is a non-profit Illinois corporation founded in 1939. It is the largest charter club of the American Saddlebred Horse Association with more than 400 members who own and compete with Saddlebreds, Road Horses and Hackney Ponies. Mid-America produces three shows a year and oversees a regional circuit of 35 affiliated A and B rated shows in Illinois and surrounding states where members earn points toward year-end awards.

  9:00AM 6:00PM The Great Pumpkin Patch   The Great Pumpkin Patch is proud to invite guests to see over 300 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds from over 30 countries around the world; all grown here on our farm. Numerous premier displays, over 5,000 hardy mums, various mazes and gardens grace the grounds. There's a diversity, of plants and animals- with several goats, pigs, exotic chickens, rabbits, a llama and an alpaca. There are several places to eat and drink on the farm and lots of entertainment on the weekends. Named Illinois Agritourism Business of the Year in 2009, The Great Pumpkin Patch is much more than an ordinary pumpkin patch. It is a safe, family-fun atmosphere where learning can take place. Located in the heart of Amish country, 2 miles south and 1/2 mile west of Arthur, they are open from Sept. 15 through Oct. 31 every day, seven days a week, from 9 am to 6 pm. Admission is charged.
  6:00PM n/a Honoring Our Heritage Gala   2nd Annual Gala for the Springfield & Central Illinois African-American History Museum. The theme of this year's Gala, "Honoring Our Heritage" is based upon the legendary Harlem Renaissance, a cultural movement centered in Harlem but also present in the Midwest, that spanned the 1920s. It encompassed new African-American cultural expression in literature, music and the arts. Similarly, the Gala will include music with the John Crisp band and vocalist Victoria Douglass, poetry reading, an art exhibit as well as creative arts vendors and a silent auction. Awards will be presented to three individuals in recognition of their positive contributions to the Springfield area community: J. D. Washington, Barbara Dickerman and Herman Senor, Jr. The Gala will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2012, at the Hilton Hotel downtown Springfield. A reception with the artists begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will be at 7 p.m. 1920s attire is encouraged.
