  All Day "Inspirations from Nature" Exhibit   "Inspirations from Nature," an exhibit of collected artworks by Christy Freeman will open Sept. 4, 2014 in the Becker Art Gallery in Becker Library on the campus of Benedictine University at Springfield. The work will be on display through Oct. 16, 2014. A closing reception will be held on Oct. 16 from 5-7 p.m. in Becker Library, which is located at 1500 N. Fifth Street, just east of the Brinkerhoff Home.
  8:00AM 5:00PM Bike and Hike Days at Washington Park   The Springfield Park District is once again hosting the always popular Bike and Hike Days at Washington Park. This program is designed to foster biking, hiking, walking and running within the park. Please note the park will be barricaded to prevent vehicular traffic. Bike and hike days will take place every Sunday through Sept.
  7:00AM 5:00PM 42nd Annual Capital City Century   Join Springfield Bicycle Club on this annual recreational bicycle ride the Sunday after Labor Day. The 2014 CCC features well-marked route options of 25 to 100 miles, as well as a special 125-mile double metric option, a food stop at historic Clayville, SAG, and a post-ride party at the K of C. The club's free annual historic bicycle ride is always held the day prior. It has a new starting location, the Lincoln Depot at 908 E Monroe.
  8:00AM n/a The Great SBC Cycling Challenge   The Great SBC Cycling Challenge is designed to aid riders in building their cycling fitness and preparing to complete their chosen distance on the annual SBC Capital City Century. The first four Cycling Challenge events are free and totally self-supported. You may want to purchase food and drink items or take a break along the way at local mom and pop restaurants and convenience stores that are marked on the mapped route. Each consists of a century (100 mile) ride with shorter options of approximately 25 miles and 50 miles. Whatever your typical riding speed or distance, there will be a riding group you can join. The 5th and final Cycling Challenge event is SBC's 42nd annual Capital City Century (CCC) on September 7. It features SAG support, food stops, and a post-pedalin' party. CCC ride options range from 10 to 100 miles. A special Double Metric (125 mile) option will be available for those seeking an "ultimate challenge."   9:00AM n/a 9/11 Heroes Run   The 9/11 Heroes Run united communities internationally with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11 and in the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military. Run, volunteer, donate, cheer…but most of all: Honor. The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k run/walk welcomes runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11, and are 100 percent organized by local community volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity for your community to personally come out and thank your local veterans, their families and first responders in an annual, fun and family friendly environment!
