Weekend Happenings, Weapons Ban, and Houston's Announcement

After another great and busy weekend, we'll talk about dunk tanks, dog bites, birthday parties and more! Plus we'll get your reaction to Mayor Mike Houston's announcement at the Springfield City Council Chambers and Gov. Pat Quinn's call to ban assault weapons. That's all ahead with Bishop On Air only on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield.

Wonderful weekend

It was a jam packed weekend in and around Springfield. After taking in the Divernon Homecoming Friday, it was a full day of events Saturday. It started at the Women's Distance Festival where the Kid's Fun Run was a huge success! Then it was the APL's "Christmas in July" fundraiser where I was honored to be a "celebrity" dunkee! Watch a brief video of that below:

Then it was back to the Divernon Homecoming for a 5K fun-run. That's where we'll talk about dog owner etiquette. Don't miss that conversation!

Sunday it was birthday city where two birthday parties turned into three by mistake, but there was a fun moment where a friend found a card that is perfect for Bishop On Air! Get a complete rundown of this weekend's activities with Bishop On Air!

Weapons ban

Governor Pat Quinn wanting to change his name to Webster's Dictionary as he pushes for redefining and banning certain types of weapons. We'll talk about the so-called assault weapons ban that would also move to ban expanded ammo magazines. Watch one of the installments to my documentary series Gun-Free Zone below:

Really, all this will do is cause a mad rush for people to get their hands on semi-automatic rifles and extended magazines instead of addressing the real problems of lack of quality education and job prospects leading to gang violence.

Another run?

Be tuned in for live coverage of at 10:30 for the planned announcement from Springfield Mayor Mike Houston. We'll hear what he as to say and then get your reaction immediately after! From a press release sent late last night:

"With so many evolving projects, there’s too high of an investment to get off course or to go backwards. Springfield can’t afford to make the mistakes again I’ve worked so hard to correct."

Sure sounds like another bid for the chief administrative spot in the City of Springfield!
