Saturday Session is live from 3 to 7p CST on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Listen live online or in central Illinois on the AM dial, 970 WMAY. It's a jam packed show you should share with others about drones, about the double standard of the media and mass killings, and News on the March.
How long has this been an issue on Saturday Session? Years. Quick search shows an April 2009 entry on the drone issue. But surely they've been an issue longer than that.
Since that time, there have been US drone attacks in countries all around the world with hundreds of suspected al-Qaeda members (and affiliated groups) killed alongside plenty of innocent women and children ... but those don't count ... "that's what they get for having a shady terrorist daddy," I've heard over and again ad nauseam.
Shedding tears yet, Mr. President? No.
Instead, the administration released memos that were first leaked about the "legal justification" for killing AMERICAN CITIZENS pretty much anywhere around the world without any oversight from the judiciary.
The founders gave us 1 important piece of advice: Never let the executive unilaterally declare war. We blew it. Now they're running with it.— Chris Hedges (@ChrisLynnHedges) February 5, 2013
We'll revisit last week's conversation about "specialists" vs "amateur" weapons, and how legislators wanting to label certain rifles assault or military is obviously the government wanting to grab more power.
Plus, we'll review the absolutely absurd and frightening display of cowardice from some people willing to roll over to authoritarian government, as is evident in Al Sharpton's recent comments.
And how could we forget: did you hear what friggin' Jesse Jackson said? We have officially entered wonderland.
The double standard
Christopher Dorner is accused of killing three people, if not more, and wanting to target others in law enforcement. Dorner is a former LAPD officer who was fired in 2008.
In a manifesto with Dorner's name and explicit details about his firing, Dorner also talks about the need for an assault weapons ban and also praises people like Piers Morgan and other left talking heads.
He calls Joe Biden and honest politician and even jokes that sounds like an oxymoron. Has that been in the lame-stream media? Have they not focused on a man who is former military and apparently on some hell bent Rambo inspired rampage has an affinity for the assault weapons ban and gives props to people like Diane Feinstein?
There are some other interesting aspects of this story that we'll explore live tonight with Saturday Session.
News on the March
We'll get to a ton of news, including a conversation with Michael Schussele about S&P being targeted by the feds, the departure of Geithner and other economic updates. Are we really growing and just how honest are those unemployment numbers.
We'll also get into the latest Second Amendment news and all the absurd dealing with Illinois' ban on concealed carry and the continued and persistent movement to label certain rifles with cosmetic changes "military" or "assault" weapons.
Then we'll cover a smattering of local and global news to wrap up News on the March. Your phone calls are encouraged throughout the show. Feel free to sound off by calling 217-629-7970 or through email, Tweet, or Facebook (logged in? use the box below).
