Coming up on Saturday Session: Sovereignty down from the US to individual states and municipalities ... where does it end? We'll also talk taxes, the balance of power and more! Don't miss Saturday Session from 3 to 7p CST on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield.
Buck stops where?
There are a couple of stories that will start today's show dealing with sovereignty and how localities govern themselves. The United Nations drug watchdog agency says the US is obligated to make sure an international anit-drug agreement is followed nationwide, according to the AP. What? So, what's the point of even having local governments if an unelected body can just tell the US it is "obligated" to enforce something.
Then there's the issue of the state of Illinois mandate on municipalities to enforce the latest International Energy Efficiency Codes. We'll talk about how this trend has got to be stopped and reversed ... not to be against the environment, but to be against unelected bureaucrats from dictating how local governments spend their resources.
Only thing certain in life
This year marks 100 year anniversary of the 16th Amendment, something argued on the show in the past should be abolished. At 4p, we should be joined by Will Upton, the state affairs manager for Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). We'll talk about tax reform and what direction the country should go. Upton is a state affairs manager at Americans for Tax Reform. He primarily works on state tax policy issues. Previously, he worked at Richard Viguerie's ConservativeHQ.com and at The American Conservative Magazine.
Gun Free Zone is a forthcoming documentary series that will follow the issue of Illinois being mandated to create some form of carry law. Having filmed a significant amount of material for the first part of the series, a 5 minute preview is available online. We'll premier the preview on the air and talk about the latest issues concerning firearms and the balance of power. Don't miss out on this extremely important conversation.
To wrap up the show, we'll get News on the March out there with stories that went under the radar. Your calls (live on the air at 217.629.7970), emails, Tweets, etc are encouraged throughout the show. Sound off with Saturday Session!
