News is coming out that the FBI and CIA both were tipped off about the older Boston Bombing Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Reports have officials with the FBI saying that the “pings” they received several years ago were followed up on but they didn’t provide any information that would warrant further scrutiny.
The CIA is also said to have been asked several years ago by Russian authorities for information on Tamerlan.
An NBC article quotes an FBI agent saying that their resources are stretched thin. Really?
Last year the New York Times, amazingly, reported on something that I’ve been screaming about for years—and that’s the 50-plus plots “busted by the FBI.” In an alarming majority of those cases since 9/11, the Feds had their hands directly and prominently involved in planning the plots and cooking up the fake bombs. The Feds always say “the public was never in any danger.” That wasn’t the case with the 1993 WTC Bombing. Watch this CBS News report from back in the day.
So the Feds say they don’t have the resources to follow up on the pings they receive of possible terror suspects of foreign origin? They also have their computerized trolls through InfraGuard and Fusion Centers around the country tracking Americans who may be critical of government and corporations.
How’s about the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force step away from setting up people with informants and undercover agents who provide material and rhetorical support to groom the suspects into dropping off dummy bombs. How about DHS stop pontificating on what kinds of threats pro choice, pro life or anti war activists pose.
That surely could open up resources for the Feds to do their real job of following up and monitoring individuals who are on terror watch lists instead of going out and working to grow those lists with returning war vets, Libertarians, Tea Partiers, Campaign for Liberty members and Constitutionalists.
Where are the priorities? It seems there’s more of an effort to compartmentalize you on a list than actually following up on real leads of potential terrorists … and that is frightening.
