Vacation

With the turmoil at City Hall, Springfield Mayor Mike Houston decided to honor his long-planned canoeing vacation. We’ll get your take if you think it’s appropriate for the city’s top official to take off for the week just days after the city’s Police Chief and Corporation Counsel step aside. Don’t you think the Mayor should be out in front of this?

It’s the Bees' Knees

It’s not for the bird’s, it’s for the bees. There’s a special event coming up at Donnie’s Homespun July 28th. The event is meant to help Arvin Pierce, a local beekeeper who is hell-bent on saving as many bees as possible. We’ll welcome Arvin in studio today to talk about the event and why he wants to Save More Bees. Get more details about the even on the Facebook page here. Can’t make the event but still want to help? Visit this link to give a donation directly to Arvin’s efforts.

Bipartisanship

I’ve said many times that bipartisanship is not always good. It’s given us things like the US PATRIOT Act, or funding for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—but now there’s a new kind of bipartisanship that’s time has come. News has it that TEA Party Republicans are joining with Liberal Democrats to put some breaks on defense funding. In particular they want to have more oversight on things like arming rebels in Syria and the wholesale spying on Americans.

News on the March

With no scheduled Springfield City Council meeting tonight, that’ll give us a chance to run down some of the news that may get overlooked with the ongoing MLB performance enhancing drugs scandal, another plane crashes on a runway, and royal baby watch dominating the mainstream.

Sound off with Bishop On Air from 10 to noon on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Listen live and call 217-629-7970, email, Tweet or Facebook. Also, be sure to check out the podcast updates with the Bishop On Air Podcast.
