With the legislature in session, we'll talk about what's coming up ... Some of the major issues include pension reform, gun laws and possibly even same-sex marriage. What do you think the GA will get done? We'll also do a Springfield City Council Preview for tonight's council meeting. That's all ahead when Greg Bishop takes over the 970 WMAY airwaves from 10 to noon.
Pensions, Guns and Same-Sex Marriage
What do you think should be done with some of the major issues? It's likely that nothing will happen, but if you were dictator of Illinois, what would impose on the state? For the pension problem, how would you solve the problem? What would you impose on public sector employees? Would you cut to the bone to make up for the promises or would you strip away the promises and say "sorry for your luck." What about guns? The mandatory minimum proposal seems to be getting tweaked a bit ... what would you do? And, as for marriage equality ... should the GA take that up? We'll let you play dictator for a day and set your own rules. What should happen during the fall veto-session?
Lottery and Triple Dipping
Democrat Rep. Bob Rita from Blue Island joins the show to discuss the a recent audit of the state's lottery. Rita will be in a hearing today where the audit will reveal some discrepancies from the Lottery, including "$200 million in reporting errors." There may also be some questions about the hiring of Lottery Superintendent Michael Jones. We won't let Mr. Rita go easy, though. We'll delve into a Chicago Sun-Times article published yesterday about Rita and his brother possibly getting three different pensions. We'll also hear a little live consultant coaching going on from someone off mic in Rita's presence as well ... Don't miss this interview!
Tonight is another Springfield City Council meeting. We'll review tonight's agenda and also play a little prognostication. Who do you think should run for Mayor ... or any other office? Put your politico hat on and get ready to read some local political tea leaves with Bishop On Air!
