Top 5 National and Local Stories, Abuse of 9-1-1 and More

Greg Bishop takes over the airwaves from 10 to noon today on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Today we'll review the top 5 national and top 5 local stories of 2013, and we'll also get to the bottom of abuse of 9-1-1. That's all ahead, including a special in-studio guest after 10:30, with Bishop On Air on 970 WMAY!

Top 5 National Stories

Will it be the NSA spying, the partial government shutdown or maybe the failure of the media? Which stories will be the top 5? We'll go through the list according to you as compiled by this survey. We'll also review some of the other stories that weren't included in the list but were suggested by survey participants. We'll get the notable mentions and the top 5 stories out just after the top of the show.

Top 5 Local Stories

After reviewing the top 5 national stories, we'll review the top 5 stories for central Illinois. Will it be the SPD file shred case? Will same-sex marriage legalization surpass concealed carry? What about pension reform? We'll break it all down, according to you! A special in-studio guest will join us for that review of local stories, so don't miss that!

Abuse of 9-1-1

Earlier this month State Senator Tony Munoz called 9-1-1 three times to complain about loud music. Remember this?

Well those calls led to the arrest of Sean Layton, also known as DJ Evo. It also raised questions about whether we live in a society with one class of people treated differently than others.

Another story about the arrest of a Springfield woman for disorderly conduct is raising some fresh questions about how police treat people differently. We'll talk about the arrest of Carmen White for the "pizza emergency" calls she made and we'll get your reaction to the questions about whether we live in a society with a privileged class.

City Council preview

Tonight is a specially scheduled Springfield City Council meeting because Tuesday is New Year's eve. We'll go over some of what we can expect from tonight's meeting. Follow along with the Committee of the Whole agenda here and be sure to tune in for a special New Year's eve Council Roundup Tuesday.

Sound off with Bishop On Air from 10 to noon on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Listen live and call 217-629-7970, email, Tweet or Facebook. Also, be sure to check out the podcast updates with the Bishop On Air Podcast.
