A former chief of staff to Congressman Tim Johnson is kicking off a “campaign” to replace Johnson on the ballot.
Jerry Clarke is making a formal announcement today of his desire to be named to run for Johnson’s seat this fall, after Johnson abruptly dropped out of the race last week.
Clarke is a 46-year-old Sangamon County native and an Iraq War veteran. He previously served as Johnson’s top aide and now works in the same role for Illinois Republican Congressman Randy Hultgren.
