A Springfield man has been formally charged with inflicting critical injuries on his two-month-old son.
Demarco Elbert of Sherwood Street has been held on $500,000 bond since his arrest last week, shortly after his son was taken to a Springfield hospital.
The boy has since been transferred to a hospital in Peoria for treatment. Prosecutors believe Elbert threw the infant.
He is charged with aggravated battery to a child, a Class X felony that could bring a prison term of six to 30 years.
