The Springfield Park Board has approved designating two of its largest playgrounds as smoke-free areas. Signs will go up at the playgrounds at Washington and Lincoln Parks.
There is no penalty or fine for non-compliance, but board members hope people will see the signs and refrain from smoking around children using the playgrounds.
The board also approved a new budget that contains raises of three-to-six percent for workers and restores two positions that were eliminated in a round of budget-cutting two years ago.
