More community gardens are in the works for Springfield’s inner city.
Organizers say they are a way to help residents get easier access to nutritious fresh produce, and to get a more productive use out of land that had once held run-down and dangerous buildings.
Lindsey Record with the Illinois Stewardship Alliance says establishing and maintaining community gardens is on the increase around the state.
Private organizers are working on three parcels of land around Miller and North 16th… while the city of Springfield is finalizing agreements with property owners on several similar projects.
