Eight Republican hopefuls have filed to fill the ballot slot created when Congressman Tim Johnson abruptly dropped his re-election bid.
The list includes Jerry Clarke, Johnson’s former chief of staff, even though Johnson now says former staffers should not be considered for the spot.
Rodney Davis, an aide to Congressman John Shimkus, has also submitted an application.
Other hopefuls include former Miss America Erika Harold, along with the two candidates who lost to Johnson in the March Republican primary.
No current elected officials threw their hat in the ring for the chance to face Democrat David Gill in the November general election.
