Longtime Illinois state employees could lose the free health insurance they get in retirement.
Legislation to end the benefit was approved by the state Senate yesterday.
It had already passed the House, and will be signed by Governor Pat Quinn.
The plan would require retirees to pay a health insurance premium based on their years working for the state and ability to pay.
State Senator Larry Bomke voted no, saying the bill is unconstitutional and will result in a lengthy court challenge. State Senator Sam McCann also voted no.
