Construction of a new 32,000 square-foot elementary school begins today with a ceremony at the planned site on Pope Avenue.
The $7.3 million dollar Matheny-Withrow School facility should be ready for the 2013-14 school year.
Plans include state-of-the-art heating and air condition units, more organized parking for vehicles and busses and improved main-entrance security.
A press release from District 186 says that construction is being paid for by Health/Life-Safety bonds and no property taxes are increasing as a result of the project.
