The City of Springfield could handover hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes meant for the city to the state to help with their pension crisis in a new bill proposed by House Speaker Mike Madigan.
Springfield Budget Director Bill McCarty says that the proposed legislation would create a dangerous budget problem not just for Springfield but for other municipalities around the state.
Mayor Mike Houston is scheduled to speak to members of the general assembly today to oppose the legislation.
The Illinois Municipal League is also expected to oppose the new bill.
