A bill proposed by Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan to divert corporate personal property taxes from cities and school districts to pay for pensions run by the state isn’t going anywhere … yet.
The State Journal-Register reports a hearing on the bill Wednesday was canceled.
Mayor Mike Houston was scheduled to address the committee to express the devastation to the capital city’s budget if those funds were diverted to the state.
A Madigan spokesperson says that it wasn’t time to bring the bill forward.
