The prospective Democratic candidate for Sangamon County coroner says a state law that jeopardizes her candidacy is the definition of “ex post facto.”
Rachel Ralston voted in the Republican primary in March, because she says Democrats did not have a full slate of candidates in the primary, and she wanted her voice to be heard.
But a state law that was passed and enacted after the primary makes it illegal for someone who votes in one party’s primary to represent a different party in the general election.
The new law codifies an earlier state Supreme Court ruling.
