Local Republican congressmen Aaron Schock and John Shimkus both voted in favor of the deal to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff,” at least temporarily.
Seven of the state’s eleven GOP members of the House supported the deal, which preserves tax cuts for most Americans but raises rates on households making more than $450,000 a year.
The legislation also postpones deep spending cuts to give lawmakers more time to work out an agreement on where those cuts should occur.
