A Springfield museum dedicated to the profession of surveying... and its connection to Abraham Lincoln... has closed, apparently for good.
Abraham Lincoln’s National Museum of Surveying could not meet its mortgage payment or pay other bills.
Museum officials say the economic downturn hurt donations from surveying companies and trade groups, and say attendance never met expectations.
The museum downtown, across from the Old State Capitol, may face foreclosure next month and could have to sell off some of its exhibits.
