U.S. Senator Mark Kirk has made a triumphant and emotional return to Capitol Hill.
With supporters cheering him on, Kirk climbed the 45 steps of the U.S. Capitol Thursday, his first day back on the job since he suffered a stroke almost a year ago.
Kirk needed some assistance as he continues to cope with the stroke’s aftereffects, including significant physical impairment of his left arm and leg.
But he says he is ready and eager to get back to work.
Republican Congressman Rodney Davis was also on hand to support Kirk.
Davis was sworn in Thursday for his first term, representing a newly-drawn district that includes part of Springfield.
