Controversial legislation that had appeared to be on a fast track in the state Senate has now stalled… and supporters may have to start from scratch in the new legislative session.
Senate Democrats adjourned Thursday without taking final votes on bills to restrict possession of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, and to legalize same-sex marriage.
Those bills all passed through Senate committees, but supporters acknowledged they did not have the votes to win final Senate approval.
It now appears unlikely the bills will be taken up before next week’s deadline, and will have to be reintroduced when the new General Assembly is seated.
