A new appointee to Sangamon County’s Deputy Merit Commission has stepped down after questions were raised about some of the things he posted on Facebook.
Bob Howlett was named to the commission by the county board just last week… but now says he will give up the position after the inquiry by the State Journal-Register.
The newspaper had been asking about Howlett’s Facebook posts, including one that appeared to compare President Obama to Hitler and Stalin over the issue of guns.
Howlett told the newspaper that he did nothing wrong, but felt like it would be better to step aside than to let the issue become a PR problem for himself or Sheriff Neil Williamson.
