Some Lawmakers Opting Out of State Pension System

Illinois' pension crisis has prompted an increasing number of lawmakers to say they won't accept their legislative pension.

At least two dozen members of the House and Senate have opted out of the General Assembly pension system.

Timothy Blair, who oversees the pension system, says that's the biggest uptick he's seen.

Among those refusing a legislative pension is new local Representative Sue Scherer.

But the Decatur Democrat is still drawing a public pension, thanks to her years of work as a teacher.
