State Provides Millions of Dollars for Area Streets and Bike Trail Projects

Hopes of completing the Capitol Avenue streetscape are on hold for this year, after the state rejected a request for millions of dollars to finish the work.

But state officials did give the city $1 million for other downtown streetscape projects, allowing for new benches and lighting along sections of 4th, 7th, Adams and Monroe.

Chatham also got $350,000 for the second phase of its Plummer hike-and-bike trail, and Jacksonville got $2 million for improvements to its downtown plaza.
